Significant Service

“Ten thousand people and a billion dollars” was the off-the-cuff answer given to what it would take to finish the task of global translation of the New Testament. As an estimate, it was more of an educated guess than a working budget, but was probably about the right magnitude. That “billion dollars” needed for many things: Aircraft, watercraft, vehicles; wages for national support staff; computer equipment and software; new buildings and infrastructure, educational supplies and equipment, and a multitude of other things. Just like a business expanding into new markets, the task of translation will need this kind of investment to expand into difficult places where it has never been before. Unlike a business, the final product will essentially be given away to the final customers. The cost will be borne by the Church through God’s provision. The profit will accrue to God’s Kingdom.

Throughout the USA there are Christians and non-Christians who see the value of the Bible translation task or the literacy training and language development activities that are linked to it. Many have significant personal assets they would like to see used in a way that honors God and becomes part of their legacy. In a sense they are interested in things like return on investment, accountability, and a desire to see their gift used well, to be good stewards of the blessing God has given them. In some cases, they want to go see the work for themselves.

We would like to talk to you if you are familiar with the fields of finance, advancement, donor relations, investment and estate planning. Wycliffe wants to be in a position to invite individuals, businesses, and foundations to invest in Bible translation. We also have openings for grant writers and as in every domain, for people to manage the work.

If you have expertise in this field, consider investing your time, skills, and abilities towards this task. The return on investment is significant, and it will continue to bear fruit for eternity.

Professional Considerations

There are openings for development specialists, donor relations coordinator, financial planner, grant writer, foundation grants consultant, investment analyst, planned giving associate, project funding coordinator, and other jobs. Most of these are located in the USA.

If you have expertise in other financial services—accounting, bookkeeping, financial systems management, benefits coordination, and others, there are positions in the USA and many other countries around the world. The willingness to learn an appropriate language is also beneficial.

Your lifestyle and history have bearing when becoming a member of Wycliffe Bible Translators. Are you ready? Are you living a disciplined life in preparation for service? Please count the cost now and prepare well! We are praying for you and would love to walk with you on this journey.
